Description
Militancy in Kashmir: A Saga of Counter Insurgency Operations is a record of a glorious chapter of the unit history in J&K valley which lasted from 1992 to 1995. Having been blooded in Sri Lanka and Punjab before entering the valley, they performed most creditably, achieving spectacular results. 358 militants neutralized and 247 weapons recovered in 192 successful encounters was a remarkable result by all standards. The boys were on their feet 24×7, launching 581 operations during this period. The results were achieved with tremendous hardwork and dedication of troops. Eight of the brave soldiers were martyred and 51 injured including eight officers who shed their blood in the valley. The COAS, Army Commander and the Corps commander repeatedly congratulated the unit for its commendable performance in operations. With the blessing of the god Almighty the unit had during this period brought about a considerable change in the environment, bringing down the level of militancy and re-establishing government control. The book narrates all actions in a most presentable manner describing various acts of bravery, sacrifice, comrade ire, team spirit and gallantry in a chronological order. The book also highlights a number of lessons that we learnt which would be beneficial to any unit performing similar tasks today.
